Over 45 years ago Ronnie, his brothers Campbell and Jim opened their business as Funeral Directors at 16 Longstone Street, Lisburn trading as James Thompson & Sons. The business prospered and was eventually sold in 1988 to the multinationals.
Ronnie and his wife Jeane decided to open their own funeral business in Moira in 1990, then in 1993 they returned to premises on the Hillsborough Road, Lisburn. Their intention was to build their own Funeral Church and in September 1996 they relocated to their purpose built premises, which were officially opened at, 20 Ballinderry Road, Lisburn by Rt. Hon Sir James Molyneaux M.P.
To enable Jeane to retire in 2007 and to lessen the on call 24hr 7 days a week burden on Ronnie they decided to sell a share in the business to Bill Reid.
Bill and his wife Anne have their own Funeral business in Ballynahinch which trades as Douglas Funeral Directors and has been in Bill’s mother’s family since its inception in 1926. They are delighted to be able to bring their expertise to Lisburn and hope to enjoy a successful partnership in Ronnie Thompson’s and to serve the community of Lisburn and surrounding areas for many years to come.
